What to look for

Look for children choosing their own work. Small groups form and dissolve. Look at the shelves: a few materials, set in order, each with a place. Notice hands busy, voices low. In a room like this, the arrangement does the teaching. A photograph rarely shows the whole morning, but it can show that someone thought about it.
