Assistant Teacher
Ben is the assistant teacher in the Primary classroom. He was once a Montessori student himself and has studied education, earning his PreK-12 Art Education licensure. He comes to this work with a calm and approachable demeanor, a background in art and comics, and two decades of experience serving Vermonters in a medical practice. In the classroom, he centers each student and works to build community.
What this looks like in practice
Mr. Ben works alongside Molly in the Primary room, where children from three to six choose their own work. Some children practice letter sounds. Others spoon lentils between jugs. He moves between them, sitting low, staying calm.
That calm reaches home. Children finish a task and put it back. They carry a heavy pouring job with steady hands. When something spills, they wipe it themselves. The quiet lessons of the room become habits parents see at the kitchen table.
